I would like to address the passage: "this begs the question: why are so many people addicted to heroin, and so few addicted to broccoli? My hypothesis is that it comes back to potency". However you are missing a HUGE part of the equation, PAIN! Broccli has zero capacity to relieve the pain and the relief of pain is one of our basic human needs. Also, it's mythic that drugs are the cause of addiction. It's also detrimentally mythic to say that a drug like heroin is somehow worse than other drugs. "one and done" is simply and absolutely false. It the old, let's scre people from using drugs. HA! Besides again the focus on drugs means we do not have to look at ourselves as a society and how we perperuate the experience of addiction because we fail to see that the real issue is systemic, the real issue is us and the choices we make when it comes to people who use drugs.
