The Intersection of Trauma and Leadership in Families
When we think about leadership, we often picture CEOs, managers, or community organizers. But one of the most critical leadership roles happens inside our own homes. Parents, caregivers, and family members lead every single day — especially when a loved one is struggling with mental and emotional challenges, addiction, or other distressing behaviors.
Yet, most families don’t see themselves as leaders in this way. And even fewer recognize how trauma — past and present — shapes the way they lead. The reality is, trauma and leadership are deeply connected. How we respond to conflict, how we create (or fail to create) emotional safety, and how we model healthy relationships all influence the direction of our family’s healing journey.
