Introduction

I had the privilege of reading books from a wise teacher during my formative years. While the lessons were about management and consulting, they ultimately profoundly shaped my approach to parenting, especially when dealing with behavioral health challenges. Today, I’d like to share these lessons, hoping they might resonate with other parents on a similar journey.

The Five Essential Questions

  1. What is your goal as a parent?
  2. Who is your child at their core?
  3. What does your child truly need?
  4. What progress have you seen?
  5. What’s your next step?

Understanding your child’s unique needs and challenges is crucial. By asking these questions, you can tailor your approach to best support them.

The True Role of a Supportive Parent

It’s not about having all the answers but asking the right questions. Your child is the expert on their own feelings. Engage them in conversations, listen actively, and guide them toward finding their own solutions.
